We are looking for a highly skilled

Senior Backend Developer

to join our team in Helsinki and help design, build, and scale our cloud-native backend systems. 

As our Senior Backend Developer you will take ownership of mission-critical services, architect robust serverless and containerized workloads, and ensure our platform is secure, scalable, and resilient. You’ll work closely with product, design, and engineering teams to deliver high-quality solutions in a fast-paced environment.

The role is based in our central Helsinki office, where you'll work closely with the rest of the product team. Once you get accustomed to our stack and ways of working, you can transition to a hybrid model if you want (one remote day per week). We offer a 4 day work week as a benefit, so you can have a long weekend every week.

Please note: To qualify for this position, you need to be located in Finland with working permit. We do not offer relocation or visa services at this moment.

Who you are:

You are a seasoned professional with 5+ years of professional backend development experience in high-traffic or large-scale environments. You have proven experience in building production-grade serverless applications.

You have excellent communication skills in English, and you’re comfortable with communicating with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. 

You have a strong problem-solving, product oriented mindset, and you are  able to balance technical quality with business needs and timelines. Working in an agile, fast-moving environment is familiar for you, and you already know that you excel in the constant change of a scaling SaaS company and cross-functional teams. You have a strong sense of ownership and accountability, and you demand the same from your peers and team. 

Your day-to-day work will consist of the following:

• Architect and develop production-grade backend services using TypeScript (or JavaScript) in a high-traffic, cloud-native environment.
• Design and maintain serverless applications and/or event-driven and distributed systems using AWS Lambda, API Gateway, S3, EventBridge and related services.
• Build and optimize container-based workloads using AWS Fargate / ECS.
• Implement and maintain RESTful APIs (with optional GraphQL services).
• Ensure robust authentication and authorization
• Lead the technical design of scalable data models using DynamoDB, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or similar databases.
• Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code with strong focus on reliability and performance.
• Implement automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, observability, and infrastructure-as-code.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with product and engineering teams, contributing to architectural decisions and roadmap planning.
• Monitor service health and performance using CloudWatch, Datadog, or OpenTelemetry or similar services.

In order to excel in this role you have…

• 5+ years of professional backend development experience in high-traffic or large-scale environments.
• Strong proficiency with JavaScript/TypeScript.
• Proven experience building production-grade serverless applications.
• Deep understanding of container-based workloads (ECS, Fargate) and cloud-native architectures.
• Solid foundation in event-driven systems, distributed architectures, and messaging patterns.
• Experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs; GraphQL experience is a plus.
• Strong experience with databases, such as DynamoDB, MongoDB, or RDS/PostgreSQL.
• Deep knowledge of security best practices, authentication, and authorization in cloud-native platforms.
• Ability to write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code.

• Version Control: Git with trunk-based or Gitflow workflows
• Infrastructure as Code: AWS CDK, Terraform

You’ll get extra points for having…

• Experience with React and ability to come up with UI (styling will be handled by frontend)
• Experience with Python
• Experience with GraphQL (e.g., AWS AppSync)
• Deeper experience with container orchestration (ECS, Fargate)
• Knowledge of real-time event streaming (Kinesis, Kafka)
• Background in DevOps, SRE, or platform engineering
• Experience scaling SaaS platforms in high-growth environments
• Additional experience with IaC tooling (CDK, Terraform)
